Currently most elise engine swaps are using Honda or Audi lumps. There are a few oddballs around with Alfa V6, Rx7, bike engines etc and there was the ill fated Ford Duratech option that seems to have died a death (any new on this one drop us an email - love to see that one back up and running).
Having a look at the Javan they are now using renault engines with their 6 speed box. The Javan R1 started life as the Strathcarron and went from bike engine to k series, then to Honda K20. They dropped the Honda mainly because they could get no sensible support from Honda for the supply of new engines. That lead them to the door of Renault, who really can design a good engine. Check out the pictures - it is a nice small package and will fit a treat - a nice 190bhp stock engine with a bit more if you fancy it. Shuold fit a treat - anyone fancy a winter project?
