Omex – when good maps go bad, or summat

Omex map

There is a problem with finding ECUs for the honda K20 - the VTC mech is not properly supported even though claims are often made about the level of support.

There are ECU options which properly support the honda VTC  - Hondata, EFi (clockwisemotion.co.uk), MoTeC, DTA are worth looking at. Then its just a matter of setting up the closed loop cam control properly (which so many places just do not do). Its the same kit (denso) as used in other vari-cam setups (Yoda for example). You have to ask - if you have the right ECU/EMS and your tuner does not set it up properly why on earth are you using them?

Attached to this post is a prime example of how not to do it.

  1. Wrong ECU
  2. Wrong tuner
  3. Rubbish result (garbage in, garbage out)

It made an indifferent 203/141 but more significantly managed to run dangerously lean even at 5C & 1045mbar.

Basically cocked up VTC,  rubbish fuel map and no temp  compensation. Shocking.

Use the right ECU and get it mapped properly.
