Steve Butts 1.4 compound charger k series update

I have a built gearbox in the back of my car and wil be taking that over to Guglielmi's today. I've gone for the UCR Quaife straight cut kit with a 4.2 diff and uprated diff bearings. I've left 5th as the stock ratio so it's not quite so deafening when cruising on the road. So nice close 1st-4th for competition and track, upto 115mph and the 5th giving a theoretical top speed of almost 190mph!

I found a potential problem when I went to line up the clutch on the new engine. My spare input shaft that I use to line up the friction plate normally locates in the crank....my Farndon crank had a hole too small compared to the diameter of the input shaft! This is an issue as the inout shaft normally sits in the crank slightly. As there is no spigot bearing the gearbox input shaft was ground back to give sufficient clearance - a much easier option that stripping the engine and having the crank bores out slightly!

I've replaced the loom - it got a bit burnt when the engine went at the 2006 tuner GP in ball of flames, and it's been on my to-do list ever since...but as it was fixed on the day, I left it alone - typical British if it ain't broken don't fix it Well, the loom has now been replaced. Thanks to Marc at Hills Salvage for sorting me out a nice one.

Still quite a bit to do before the 12th April.....

As the mapping may be quite complex, and we could have all manner of issues it's likely we'll approach it in two stages.

The car will have everything installed such that both the SC and turbo can be used but we'll ensure that the turbo car be bypassed by having a pipe with us to feed the airfilter straight to the SC via the TB. The finished install will have the airfilter feeding the turbo, then the turbo feeding the SC.

First we'll map the SC, then introduce the turbo with all the complication that adds. Benefits of this approach are that the SC mapping should be easy and we can prove the basics work and have a drivable car should there be complications with the turbo mapping. Even if it only makes 170bhp with just the SC I will have a car that I can use for the first hillclimb on the 17th. It might make a bit more as the SC gives 10psi and the engine can rev upwards of 8500.
