Things are progressing. Peter Grace of PEC Racing is putting together the engine for me and has almost finished it. A few mods have been made - gearbox crank seal and restriction of oil to head as I'm not using hydraulic followers. Also some more relief around the inner top edges of the liners as the larger diameter exhaust valves run very close to the head and Peter wanted some more clearance after a test assembly.
I'm dropping the gearbox off tomorrow to have its UCR straight cut gear set fitted.
I've got a mapping session with Emerald booked for the 12th April and that should give Steve Guglielmi time to get everything installed once I have the the engine and box back.
Jobs left:
* turbo supporting brackets to fab
* manifold/turbo heat shielding
* engine/box install
* plenum/injector fitting
* supercharger fitting
* replacement of engine loom (anyone got a good low mileage S1 spare?)
* installation of chargecooler, intercooler and engine bay plumbing
* fire it up to check for leaks!
* map
* drive
The original engine made 342 bhp at 7000rpm and hadn't peaked.... Some changes from the original spec have been made - most notable an additional supercharger and much better head porting. The SC will take some power away but will boost the low and mid range and if I let the engine rev around to 8500+rpm it could be good for a lot of power. I'd like to think it will do between 300-350bhp, but of course am rooting for 400
Matthew, at ~600kg and with the hoped for 400bhp that gives the car a healthy 600+bhp/tonne With a measly 350bhp/tonne it was measured at 3.9 0-60, 9.5 0-100
I popped into the DVA to day and had my oil pump flowed and fitted with one of his rather smart steel pump gears to replace the weak sintered one fitted as standard.
Hope to have the engine and gearbox all built up by next weekend..... Peter has drawn up the very nice oil ladder in case I ever have a rod throw and need to get a new one made!!
